You say "Yes" to hurt me less Though you'd rather you said "No" I said that "we don't have to go" Thinking that's what you wanted to hear... What are we really saying amidst this indirection? It isn't really clear. I pretend and you reply With an act that rivals mine And all of this pretending Are we trying to cover our fear? What are we really saying amidst this indirection? It isn't really clear. Now it's time that I must go Though I know it hurts you so But you smile so lovingly You would never let me know... Okay, let's stay then in the park I swear I'm telling you I want to! No, I know that I don't have to... But I tell you, I'm happy we do. What are we really saying amidst this indirection? We're saying "I Love You".

Windy Hill 02:15
Clinging to you as we roam Up the mossy stone It's been so many years since we've been here But I always feel right at home 'Cause I'll never forget our days on the Windy Hill I fell in love with you upon the Windy Hill Ask me now and I'll tell you "I love you still" On the hill we first made love And had our first big fight And I'm certain one day, when we are both gone, On that hill we will still burn bright. 'Cause I'll never forget our days on the Windy hill I fell in love with you upon the Windy Hill Ask me now and I'll tell you "I love you still" Clinging to you as we roam Up the mossy stone It's been so many years since we've been there Now I'm thinking it's time we go 'Cause I'll never forget our days... I fell in love with you upon the Windy Hill Ask me now and I'll tell you "I love you still"

On a forest path, Not too far from town, I walk with you lady And you're beautiful Can I sing you a song? I'm sorry did that sound wrong? What I meant is you're beautiful. Won't you stay with me? And I've got nowhere to be That's uncommon for me And it's fun. I'll make it fun. And I've been dreaming of you And all we will do in the sun, Yes the sun. Won't you take my hand? Listen to my voice. Perhaps you'll understand That we could be beautiful. But I can listen too. That's what lovers do. If you want I will listen the whole day through. And I've got nowhere to be That's uncommon for me And it's fun. I'll make it fun. And I've been dreaming of you And all we will do in the sun Yes the sun.

I made a decision when you walked through that door, Upon the collision of our eyes across the floor, That amidst the commotion I would buy you a beer But you haven't a notion that I am here I am a spectator... Hey little girl, tell me what's going on in your mind Hey little girl, tell me what's going on in your mind I've been so lonely. Yes, I'm alone tonight... In the red billiard light I study your form But I'm wasting my night and my beer is getting warm So my indecision I will put to an end If I don't act a fool I'll never see you again Oh beautiful stranger... Hey little girl, tell me what's going on in your mind Hey little girl, tell me what's going on in your mind So are you lonely? Yes, I'm alone tonight... Hey little girl, tell me what's going on in your mind

Lover 02:23
Lover wherever you are Don't let that ticket be a one way trip this time 'Cause someday I'm getting on that train I'm taking that trip of mine And I hope our paths will meet on down the line I don't care wherever you have been So long as you are coming back this way again And then I'll buy that one way trip A seat right by your side You can share all of the feelings that you hide (Inst.) But till that day I'm stuck in this old town Each day I try and peal my feelings off the ground Till there's that old familiar sound rumbling all the ground Lover, you take me away from this old town

Halfway on the walk back home Halfway together, half alone Halfway home there was a storm As I finished half a poem Half the battle is won if we'll admit we only halfway understand Meet me halfway and today and tomorrow Yes forever, we'll possess two truths for everything at hand Halfway through I took a guess And got it right on my first try But what's the use in being right If we can't see eye to eye? Half the battle is won if we'll admit we only halfway understand Meet me halfway and today and tomorrow Yes forever, we'll possess two truths for everything at hand

Leo Leo 02:57
Out in a barn in Saint Clair County Ol' Top Hat Rodgers is on a bounty He's looking for a man about yay high Who's been selling dame jeannes of Missouri corn whiskey "No. I don't think I've seen him. Maybe he's on up the road. Oh now but Leo Leo, Man, you'd better move down the line" Now Top Hat went to talk to Charlie Birger. He said "In your time e'er you employed this boy?" He said "No Sir I have not, but even if I did, Do you think I'd give him up? He sounds like a big cheese kid - So no. I don't think I've seen him, Maybe he's on up the road. Oh now but Leo Leo, Man, you'd better move down the line" Now Leo had a woman in the Bronzeville borough. He said "Baby get ready, I'll be there tomorrow." But by the time she packed her bags for Californai-yay Top Hat was at her door. Here's what she had to say - She said "No. I don't think I've seen him. Maybe he's on up the road. Oh now but Leo Leo, Man, you'd better move down the line." Now Leo was trapped behind an old barn door. So Top Hat burned the barn down just to be sure. But six months later on a Mississippi boat - Somebody thought they saw a man wearing Leo's coat. So no. I don't think I've seen him. Maybe he's on up the road. Oh now but Leo Leo, Man, You'd better move down the line. Yeah, Leo Leo Man, you'd better move down the line."

Sweeter it grows and hour by hour Rich as a plum, fair as a flower Lately have you seen that it's begun? But I'm talking to myself "Pretty me, but not today. Okay" On Monday morning when I open all the doors. Do not forget at morning light This message pass: That I've stepped out working on a poem I will recite. But I'm talking to myself "Pretty me, but not today. Okay" On Monday morning when I open all the doors.

Only Fifteen 02:15
I don't know why you left All I know if you left me With a broken heart Why did you do it? Well, let's go through it Right from the start Going over every note I wrote to you Trying to find out where I went wrong I want to call and see If you'll give me A little clarity Why do I take this So seriously? I'm only 15. So who was it? Was it me? Was I the one? Or was that what I had to believe? People tell me I'm too young to settle down. They tell me don't expect all that much from you. They're always saying: I should be content to run round. But how can I love you like I do?

Do you know just what it’s like to be the only one? Do you know just what it feels to be the only one? The only one who stays. The only one who goes. The only one to sing hoping to reach the end. Can you see the time of the clock on the wall Of the house where you grew up, it’s still been ticking? Do you know just what you’ll do if you’re the only one? Do you know just where you’ll go if you’re the only one? Some birds will lead the way. The softest bed of hay. Until you’re old and gray - into the night again. Are you sure the blue of your eyes aren’t brown? They’ve been changing every year, growing deeper. Do you know just what it’s like to be the only one? The only one who stays.

about

Sweet Famine is my Folk LP I released on August 1st, 2018. I recorded and mixed it myself and it was mastered by April Golden at Golden Mastering. I wrote all of these songs in 2016 and they were inspired as I embarked on my Farmers' Market enterprise, something I still do to this day and that I very much love. This album is available on Spotify, Itunes, Pandora, Deezer, Band Camp and anywhere you can find me playing. I hope you enjoy!
